Erin has been working with us since February of 2021 as a Veterinary Assistant. She has been in the Veterinary Industry since early 2019 but has been involved in the Animal Industry since 2010 doing animal husbandry and research in marine ecosystems. She’s lived in Des Moines her entire life and attended DMACC majoring in Arts and Science. Previously she has worked at the Blank Park Zoo as an intern, as well as an Animal Shelter in the area. Upon asking why she went into the Veterinary field, she replied saying “I lost my first dog when I was 22, I wanted to be able to provide care the way I was cared for during that time.” Since working at Family Pet, Erin has taken a special interest in Anesthesia, Surgery, and Dentistry and works closely with Dr. Jen’s during Advanced Dentistry Procedures. She is currently certified as a Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional (CFVP) through the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP).
Erin’s home life includes her husband, whom she married in 2018 and they just welcomed their first child in October of 2022. She also has an American Pitbull named Tucker, Lab Mix named Rem, and, as she stated, “too many cats”! She spends her free time with her pets either at the lake or spending quality time with them at home. One of Erin’s core values is doing the best for your pets since they are such an important part of your family. Her care for pets both at home and in the clinic reflect this about her and shows just how much she treats pets as valued members of every family. If she were to give pet owners one piece of advice it would be to ask your veterinarian about the best diet for your pet. Diet is an extremely important component of your pets life.
